Firenze, Siena, Lucca, Pisa; Toscana is less one united area and more a sum of separate kingdoms, with each city home to its own history, cuisine, culture and traditions, held within the walls, lanes, plazas and churches which have hosted the royal families and residents for hundreds of years. Between these former strongholds lies vineyard strewn hills, wizened olive groves, small towns and dappled sunlight.  So picturesque yet also full of personality, the most visited area of Italy carries on quietly undeterred.
